Self Tip #23

Tame tensionTame Tension
If deadlines send you on the hunt for double-fudge brownies, you’re not alone. Tension zaps mental energy you would normally commit to making good food choices and can lead you to lose control of your eating, says C. Peter Herman, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. Today, find an outlet for your anxiety that won’t hurt your waistline. Journal your grievances, do a crossword puzzle or call your best friend.

Well ain’t that the truth? Last night I had the confrontational phone call of a lifetime the friend who had started getting so much on my nerves that I himmed and hawed about every single details on her actions and things she said to the rest my friends. I was going to learn to deal with her insanity and just except that I can’t really hold her to any expectations anymore unless I was looking to be disappointed.

Her explanations for treating me badly for more than four months came out as consecutive insults which I finally had the nerve to shoot down. In the end she admitted that she was just being selfish and not realizing that her actions and words have major consequences on the people around her.

At the end of the conversation I said: “I recommend next time you’re trying to make a new friend that you don’t say something like that to win them over.”

Apparently I hit a nerve.
