Day #2 – Workout + Treadmill Run

Last night I paid $7 for a day pass at the Zone in Brock University.

Let’s talk over-population.

Let’s talk staring at your own reflection through windows in front of you while on the treadmill. The only thing they did do when designing the layout was ensure that peer pressure would encourage a person to stay as long as they could on it: 30 minutes. Why the sudden need for humiliation? well anyone on the bikes, crosstrainers, cybexes and stairs were forced to stare at the treadmill kids. Thus if you’re on the treadmill you have no desire to NOT stick out the 30-minute time limit. Good, bad strategic planning. And if that weren’t so bad then lets talk about the windows are telling us in front of the treadmills — you’re starring at your reflection, most likely thinking “man, I’m fat.”

Yay motivation.

Let’s go for a walkaround now. Oh yes, this gym doesn’t believe in supersetting. Why? well you use a machine move onto the superset on the opposite side of the gym… taking a good 5 minutes to get there plus you have to most likely wait for that machine. Then you get that superset in and you return to the original machine to find a couple sharing it while they touch each other or some moron kid rapidly doing whatever exercise completely incorrect.

I had a terrible workout, none-the-less I didn’t want to give up and leave. Maybe it was the scot in me – wanting to get my money’s worth. So there I attempted an arm workout and a 20-minute (I’m a rebel) 2 mile run/walk. My calves were on fire within the first five minutes of my first attempt at a job. It was terrible! I felt no pain the night before. Day #2 in the Zone made me feel like I’d never been in a gym before. Strange, eh? Since I work at one.

Day #3 – I measured my blood pressure at Shopper’s today – 106 over 67 BABY! 67 resting heart rate too… we’ll work on the numbers but it was nice not to see 156 over 93.

Day #4 – I hope to work out in the morning at work at the gym. Wish my luck!
